BCCI Honorable Secretary Jay Shah presented the fielding medal of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final in Barbados to Suryakumar Yadav.

If the Indian team were able to beat Aiden Markram's South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final, then it was because of Suryakumar Yadav. The Mumbai-born cricketer pulled off one of the best catches and created one of the best moments ever captured in the T20 WC history. To do what he did takes a lot of courage, especially after failing to do what he loves to do.

The Indian team looked to be getting into a situation they would have loved to avoid. Skipper Rohit Sharma was back in the pavilion for 9 runs in the 4th ball of the 1st over and Rishabh Pant walked in and walked out the crease and India were 23/2 within the 2nd over.

In came Suryakumar Yadav with a burden of expectations and a poor record in big and important matches, especially the Finals. But only after playing 4 balls and scoring 3 runs, Surya failed to play his favorite shot in the fashion he would have liked. He ended up hitting Kagiso Rabada's outside off delivery towards deep square leg where Heinrich Klaasen completed the catch.

The stadium got even more silent as Suryakumar Yadav walked back to the pavilion wearing the pads for the last time in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. But to the fans and the team management's relief, Virat Kohli displayed his best innings of this T20 WC edition in the West Indies and USA.

After failing to contribute as an opener, for the first time at an ICC event for 7 matches straight, Virat Kohli scored 76 runs. He took the team up from a very difficult situation, adjusted himself with respect to the conditions, and barged onto the South Africans.

His efforts, Shivam Dube and Axar Patel's knocks helped India post 177 as the target and South Africa had nearly chased it. Quinton de Kock looked in fine form, Tristan Stubbs left after a quickfire contribution with Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller the ones to be feared the most.

Klaasen and de Kock had almost pulled off win before Hardik Pandya removed the former and Arshdeep Singh scalped the latter. Jasprit Bumrah, as always, chipped in with Marco Jansen's wicket but the big fish David Miller was still in the middle and India needed to get rid of him.

It was the final over and South Africa were really a few hits away from victory with Miller on strike and Pandya charging in. First ball and a low full-toss that struck Miller's toe end and the ball was tossed up towards long-off. Thankfully, Suryakumar Yadav was there. He completed a catch that every cricket fan would love to see in every cricket match.

Jay Shah presents the Best Fielder Award to Suryakumar Yadav

It has become a norm in the Indian dressing room to hand out a medal to the best fielder of a particular match and in the finale, there was no other contender. Only 1 and that was Suryakumar Yadav. So to complete the formalities, Fielding coach T. Dilip, for the last time, asked a special person, this time it was Jay Shah, to give the medal to Suryakumar.
