The Asia Cup 2025 ended on a dramatic note as India lifted the trophy after crushing Pakistan by five wickets in a thrilling final on Sunday, September 28, in Dubai. While the celebrations roared across the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, an unexpected face-off between Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and a Pakistani journalist at the post-match conference turned heads.
Suryakumar Yadav arrived at the press conference all smiles, along with the Player of the Tournament, Abhishek Sharma, after a long wait of more than an hour. A visibly upset Pakistani journalist accused Suryakumar of mixing politics with cricket.
Suryakumar Yadav’s cheeky response to a Pakistani journalist goes viral
The journalist questioned Suryakumar about India’s behavior towards Pakistan during the tournament, including “skipping handshakes” and “trophy photo sessions,” and then held a “political platform.” His frustration and disappointment were clear in his tone.
Unfazed by the Pakistani journalist’s cry, Suryakumar stayed calm and smiled, which caught everyone’s attention. The Indian captain asked, “Bolna hai or nahi bolna hai? (To speak or not to speak).” With a big smile, he quipped after a few seconds of silence, “Gussa ho rahe ho aap (looks like you’re getting angry).”

Suryakumar’s remark left the press conference room stunned for a moment before his unexpected humor. The Indian captain then added that the journalist had asked so many questions at once that it was hard to understand the real question.
With this composed and witty reply, the Indian skipper not only diffused the situation but also showed his maturity in handling tough moments.
Suryakumar Yadav reacts as India denied trophy from ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi
Notably, Suryakumar skipped the customary handshake at the toss in the final as well. Now, the clip of the moment has gone viral on social media. However, the real shock came later when the victorious Indian cricket team was denied the Asia Cup winners’ trophy
They had refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister and chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Speaking after the incident, Suryakumar expressed his disbelief, saying he had never seen a champion team being denied its trophy before.
When asked if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had sent an official email to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) warning that the players wouldn’t receive the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, Suryakumar dropped a bombshell.
We took this call on the ground: Suryakumar Yadav
The Indian captain said that the decision was made on the spot by the team itself and not under any instructions from the BCCI. Suryakumar said, “We took this call on the ground. We didn’t have any instructions.”
Notably, the Indian team was not awarded the winners’ trophy, and the players were not given their medals after the Asia Cup 2025 final on Sunday night. Even nearly an hour and a half after the game ended, the Indian team finally stepped onto the stage to celebrate their victory over Pakistan.
