Team India is pulling all the stops ahead of the five-match Test series against England, giving it all in preparing for the same. India has five Tests lined up against the hosts, starting from the 4th of August as it follows their second assignment in England after the World Test Championship final. To field better and hold on to the chances, the players practised a unique style of catching.

The BCCI took to its official Twitter handle and posted the clip of it. The coaching staff introduced an innovative style of catching practice, wherein the cricketers had to carry the ball through seven passes and put it in a small circle marked inside the field some distance away from them. However, they can’t use both their hands. Furthermore, while they could catch with either hand, they shouldn’t pass it with the same hand.

“You have to run and catch the ball. It is a simple game. The hand with which you catch, you have to throw with the opposite hand. After the seventh pass, the ball should land inside that area. The ball has to be kept in that area, you can drop it, place it there,” a member of the support staff revealed in the video.

Cheteshwar Pujara revealed that players can catch the ball with either hand; however, they have to throw with the opposite one and are out if they get touched. Furthermore, there must be seven passes and the ball has to land in the middle, where a small circle is present.

“You have to catch the ball with either hand and have to throw with the opposite hand and if you get touched you are out. You have to have seven passes and the ball has to drop in the middle at the small circle,” Pujara stated.

If this practice helps India, it will do them a world of good as their catching needs to be on top. India’s chances at the WTC final went down the drain as they dropped two catches on the reserve day during New Zealand’s second innings. It could well cost them the Test series against England.
