Team India cricketers Tilak Varma and Rinku Singh made their manifestations into reality during the team’s five-wicket win over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final. Tilak and Rinku not only fulfilled personal dreams but also helped the national cricket team secure their ninth trophy in the continental tournament.

India chased down 147 in the final at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, September 26. The contest went down to the final over, with Rinku Singh smashing the match-winning runs off Haris Rauf. Tilak Varma was named Player of the Match for his match-saving half-century after the early collapse.

Before the Asia Cup 2025 began, the Indian team management asked each player to write their dream for the tournament on a blank sheet on September 6. Presenter Sanjana Ganesan revealed that Rinku Singh had written that he wanted to hit the winning runs in the final.

The left-handed batter missed the first six games due to team combinations but earned a place in the XI for the final after Hardik Pandya was ruled out with an injury. Rinku walked in to bat during the last over after Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube had taken India close to the target.

With just one run needed from the final three deliveries, Rinku smashed Haris Rauf over long-on for four off his very first ball. Notably, the player who had not featured in the tournament until the final struck the winning runs.

To Play a Match-Winning Knock in a Big Game - Tilak Varma

Tilak Varma wrote his wish to play a match-winning innings on a big occasion. The left-handed batter played one of his career-best knocks under immense pressure.

India collapsed to 20/3 inside four overs during the run chase. The 22-year-old added a 57-run stand alongside Sanju Samson before shifting gears in a partnership with Shivam Dube. Tilak rotated the strike for the majority of the innings and smashed boundaries to keep the scoreboard moving.

The southpaw survived a tense run-out scare and reached his half-century off 41 balls. He then accelerated and scored an unbeaten 69 off 53 deliveries. Tilak was named Player of the Match for his knock.

Pakistan Middle Order Collapsed After a Solid Start From the Openers

Pakistan began strongly after being asked to bat. Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman added 84 runs inside ten overs. Farhan, who scored 57 runs, set the platform for a potentially imposing total, but their middle order collapsed.

Pakistan lost nine wickets for just 33 runs. They collapsed from 113/1 to 146 all out in the 20th over. Kuldeep Yadav was the pick of the bowlers for India with four wickets.

In response, Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, and captain Suryakumar Yadav perished for low scores, leaving them at 20/3. Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, and Shivam Dube added key runs with the bat. The Men in Blue reached the target with 2 balls to spare.
