The victorious Indian team met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi on Thursday (July 4) after landing in the country following their successful campaign in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

India defeated South Africa by 7 runs in the final last week to win the tournament after a gap of 17 years. The victory also ended India's long wait for an ICC trophy. Since winning the Champions Trophy in 2013, India had suffered disappointment after disappointment in global competitions before Rohit Sharma finally led the team to victory in the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup.

Soon after the victory, PM Modi had congratulated the team with a post on social media before talking to the team on the phone. And the Indian team also made sure to meet the PM and thanked him for the support as soon as they landed in the country with the T20 World Cup trophy.

PM Modi's question to Kuldeep Yadav:

The PM interacted with the players and the support staff members and asked them different questions about the T20 World Cup and as well as cricket. For Kuldeep Yadav, PM Modi had a hilarious question. The PM asked the left-arm spinner how dare he made his captain dance. PM Modi was referring to the dance move done by captain Rohit Sharma before lifting the T20 World Cup.

"How dare you made your captain dance?," asked PM Modi hilariously.

In reply, Kuldeep Yadav said: "I didn’t make the captain dance. I just told him to do it but he didn’t do it as I told him."

Speaking further, the chinaman spinner said that he loves to represent Team India at the highest level before expressing his delight over helping the team win the World Cup.

"I love to play for India, it’s an honour to represent the country at the highest level. I’ve been given the role of an attacking spinner in the team. I’ve been entrusted with the task of picking wickets in the middle overs by the captain and the coach. I’ve played three World cup tournaments so far and elated to lift it for the first time," said Kuldeep.

Kuldeep did not get a chance in the playing eleven during the group stage but was included in the team as soon as India landed in the Caribbeans for the Super 8 stage. And he hit the ground running as he picked up 10 wickets in 5 innings at an average of 13.90 and an economy of 6.95.
