Former Team India cricketer Varun Aaron took a jibe at veteran opener Rohit Sharma on air during the IPL 2025 game between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT). The former fast bowler stated that the right-handed batter didn't want to face fast bowler Mohammed Siraj against the new ball.

The Mumbai Indians’ six-match winning streak came to an end on May 6, as they faced a narrow defeat against the Gujarat Titans in a rain-shortened contest at the Wankhede Stadium. The five-time champions moved down to fourth place on the points table while Shubman Gill's side climbed to the top.

Rohit Sharma Doesn't Want to Get on Strike - Varun Aaron

Mumbai had a shaky start after being put in to bat. Mohammed Siraj dismissed Ryan Rickelton for just 2 runs in the opening over. The opening batter edged the delivery to wicketkeeper Jos Buttler off Mohammed Siraj.

On the very next delivery, Will Jacks pushed the ball back down the pitch and took off for a quick single, but Rohit refused to run.

Varun Aaron said that Rohit Sharma was in no hurry to take strike against Siraj. Aaron pointed out that Siraj had removed Rohit with a superb delivery earlier in the tournament.

"Rohit Sharma doesn't want to get on strike too soon. Must be thinking about that last encounter between the two. Siraj got him for a beautiful delivery," Varun Aaron stated.

Rohit Sharma Dismissed for Just Seven Runs off Eight Balls

Rohit Sharma was dismissed for just seven runs off eight balls by Arshad Khan in the fourth over. This was the third time this season that Rohit has been dismissed by a left-arm pacer. He was dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed and Yash Dayal earlier this season.

Rohit attempted a big shot over long-off but misjudged the delivery, sending the ball straight to Prasidh Krishna at mid-off for an easy catch. He has managed to score three half-centuries, but his other scores this season include 0, 8, 13, 17, 18, 26, 12, and 7.

The Hardik Pandya-led team managed to score 155 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. Will Jacks top-scored for MI, with 53 runs off 35 balls, including five boundaries and three sixes.

Gujarat Titans Secure Narrow Three-Wicket Victory in Clash

Gujarat faced an early setback in their chase when Sai Sudharsan was dismissed for 5. However, Shubman Gill (43 off 46) and Jos Buttler (30 off 27) added a 72-run partnership for the second wicket. Buttler was dismissed by Ashwani Kumar, and the game turned in Mumbai's favor after Jasprit Bumrah removed Gill.

Sherfane Rutherford (28 off 15), Shahrukh Khan (6), and Rashid Khan (2) were dismissed in quick succession. Rahul Tewatia (11 off 8) and Gerald Coetzee (12 off 6) added vital runs against Deepak Chahar in the 19th over. Arshad Khan (1) sealed the win by scrambling for a single after pushing a ball toward mid-off.

Notably, the game was reduced to 19 overs, and Gujarat were set a target of 147 runs. Shubman Gill was named Player of the Match during the match.
