Indian all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer, who is currently playing for Lancashire in the United Kingdom, found himself in a tough spot when asked to choose between Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni. Venkatesh Iyer's response to the toughest question has gone viral on social media.

Iyer emerged as a strong top-order batsman during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The left-handed batter earned a call-up for the national cricket team in white-ball formats following impressive performances. Iyer can also contribute to the team with his medium-pace bowling.

The 29-year-old cricketer has played two ODIs and nine T20 Internationals for the Indian team. Iyer scored 24 runs in two ODI matches at an average of 12.0. He added 35 runs in 9 T20I games at an average of 33.25 and a strike rate of 162.2. He also took five wickets in the shorter format of the game.

Lancashire's County team shared a humorous video of their ‘This or That’ segment with Venkatesh Iyer on X (formerly known as Twitter). Iyer, who is about to conclude his stint with Lancashire in England, was asked to choose between various cricketers from international teams.

The Indian cricketer picked his Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) teammate Phil Salt in most of the combinations that were sounded out to him. During the video, Venkatesh chose Salt over international stars, including Chris Gayle. The players Iyer didn't choose were progressively eliminated.

Venkatesh Iyer was asked to choose between MS Dhoni and Brendon McCullum. Iyer confidently picked MS Dhoni over Brendon McCullum and Virat Kohli. When asked to pick between Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar, Iyer paused for a couple of seconds, smiled, and then chose Dhoni again.

Venkatesh Iyer Has Struggled To Make Impact In His Stint With Lancashire

Venkatesh Iyer has played five List A matches for Lancashire in the One-Day Cup and appeared in a County Championship game against Surrey. However, his performances with the bat have been lackluster. The batting all-rounder will conclude his stint with Lancashire in their next match.

Iyer scored only 78 runs in his five One-Day Cup games. The southpaw registered scores of 15, 4, 9, 15, and 25 runs, and took three wickets.

In the County Championship match, he scored 4 and 15. The opening batter will return to India after his time with Lancashire and has missed the Duleep Trophy.

In the IPL 2024 season, the all-rounder scored 370 runs for KKR at an average of 46.25 and a strong strike rate of 158.79, including four half-centuries. He scored only 182 runs in 12 innings during the 2022 season of the IPL. He amassed 370 runs in 10 games at an average of 41.11 during the IPL 2021.
