The 34-year-old Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Vijay Shankar grabbed an absolute screamer in the ongoing match of the Indian Premier League 2025 against the Rajasthan Royals (RR).
With his stunning catch, Vijay Shankar managed to dismiss the star Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga on Sunday, March 30, at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati.

Vijay Shankar takes a superb catch
Shankar made his IPL debut for the Chennai Super Kings in 2014 against Rajasthan Royals in Ranchi. He made his return to the playing XI of the franchise on Sunday after 123 matches and 11 years. This is the longest gap between two appearances for CSK after Ravichandran Ashwin's 107 matches.
Meanwhile, Vijay Shankar made a major impact on the field in the 15th over of the innings. On the first ball of the over, Ravindra Jadeja bowled full and in the slot ball to Hasaranga, who went for a big slog-sweep.
The Sri Lanka all-rounder hit the ball low, which made catching very difficult but Vijay Shankar put in an athletic dive and grabbed a sensational catch.
He was in full control after taking the catch and the third umpire, after watching several replays, declared it as a legitimate catch. Hasaranga was dismissed for 4 runs off 5 balls.

Wanindu Hasaranga told to step up
Speaking ahead of the match on ESPNCricinfo, Wasim Jaffer told the Rajasthan Royals spinners - Maheesh Theekshana and Wanindu Hasaranga - to step up and deliver a good performance for their team. He said:
"Yeah, they need to (step up), if the conditions are like what they played last time. And in the last game, Theekshana hasn't bowled at his best. You know, he looked way rusty than what is expected of him. Hasaranga hasn't completed his quota.
"You know, I was surprised Riyan Parag bowled four overs and bowled four economical overs. So, those two guys need to come good because they're going to play the majority of the games. And as the tournament carries on, the wickets are going to take spins. So, those two guys have a major role to play."
Cheteshwar Pujara, during the same interaction, said that the RR pacer Jofra Archer hasn't been bowling well and he needs to improve. He said:
"I was coming to that point, because Jofra hasn't been bowling well. And then, if in first three or four overs, if the opposition gets off to a very good start, then there's more pressure on the spinners. So, that's where I feel Jofra has to bowl well, along with Sandeep and Tushar. I mean, both of them have been bowling reasonably well.
