Virat Kohli dropped Shai Hope during the second ODI between India and West Indies at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday, September 30. The catch came off Naman Dhir's bowling and denied the all-rounder his maiden ODI wicket for India.
Shai Hope had already survived an earlier chance against Kuldeep Yadav before Kohli put down another opportunity. The West Indies batter was on 27 when Dhir induced an uppish shot towards short mid-wicket, but Virat Kohli could not hold on to the chance as the ball burst through his hands.

Hope was first given a reprieve while facing Kuldeep Yadav in the 12th over. The left-arm wrist-spinner bowled a leg-break outside off, with Hope pushing at the delivery with hard hands.
The ball lobbed towards Kuldeep, who moved quickly to his left and attempted to take a low catch with his left hand. However, the ball hit his palm and fell to the ground.
The second opportunity came in the 20th over when Naman Dhir bowled to Hope. The West Indies batter played a fullish delivery towards short mid-wicket, where Virat Kohli attempted to take the catch using the reverse-cupped technique. However, the ball burst through his hands, and Hope and his partner completed two runs.
The missed chance was particularly frustrating for Dhir, who was playing only his second ODI for India. The youngster was looking for his first international wicket in the format.
Virat Kohli, meanwhile, had enjoyed a memorable outing in the first ODI against West Indies. He scored an unbeaten 139 off 88 balls in India's eight-wicket win and brought up his 55th ODI century. The knock also took him past the 15,000-run mark in ODI cricket.
Guwahati has also been a productive venue for Kohli. He scored 140 in India's ODI against West Indies at the same venue in 2018 before returning seven years later with another century.

John Campbell decimates India with sensational batting in 2nd ODI
John Campbell produced a record-breaking performance for West Indies in the second ODI against India, scoring a blistering 101 off just 68 balls. The left-handed opener reached his second ODI century after more than seven years, having previously scored 179 against Ireland in May 2019.
Campbell's hundred was not only his second in ODI cricket but also one of the fastest centuries by a West Indies batter. He reached the milestone in 65 balls, breaking the previous record for the fastest West Indies century against India.
Campbell reached his half-century in just 29 balls, going past Chris Gayle's previous record of 30 balls. His effort moved him to the top of the list for the fastest fifty by a West Indies batter against India in ODIs.

Campbell continued his attack after reaching fifty and brought up his century in 65 balls. He surpassed Ricardo Powell's 72-ball hundred from 1999, while Marlon Samuels and Shimron Hetmyer also feature prominently on the list.

Campbell's 65-ball century also puts him fifth on the list of West Indies' fastest ODI hundreds overall. Brian Lara holds the record with a 45-ball hundred against Bangladesh in 1999, followed by Chris Gayle's 55-ball effort against England in 2019.
Against India, Campbell's century is the ninth-fastest recorded by a batter, with Shahid Afridi's 45-ball hundred in 2005 still at the top. He is also behind Rahmanullah Gurbaz's 48-ball century from 2026.
