Devon Conway plays a vital hand for New Zealand
Devon Conway carried his golden touch with the bat and played a vital innings for his side. The left-hander, who slammed 92 runs in the Bengaluru Test, slammed another half-century and ended with an innings of 76 runs, which was the highest individual score for the team.
Coming to the match, both India and New Zealand had their moments on day 1 of the ongoing Test match. The visitors had a decent start to their innings as Tom Latham (15) and Devon Conway added 32 runs for the opening wicket but after that lost Will Young early as well.
But it was Conway and Rachin Ravindra (65) who put India under pressure. The duo added 62 runs for the third wicket and made sure they helped the team get some quick runs. However, after that Washington Sundar, who made his comeback, spun the web around the batters.
He picked seven wickets in a flash and ensured New Zealand got all out on day one. Mitchell Santer (33) played a vital hand that powered Kiwis to a total of 259. Along with Sundar, Ravichandran Ashwin also bagged three wickets.
Virat Kohli to play a key role for India in the ongoing game
India didn’t have a great start to their innings as skipper Rohit Sharma bagged a nine-ball duck. But Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill held the fort for the team as the hosts ended day one on 16 for one.
Kohli will be key for India as the team are in a tricky phase. If the hosts have to fancy their chances of going ahead in the game, the premier batter has to step up. He would be high on confidence, having scored 70 runs in the last game.
