The 30-year-old India National Cricket Team star middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer made an absolutely horrible fielding blunder during the last group stage match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against the New Zealand National Cricket Team.
Shreyas Iyer's fielding blunder didn't go unnoticed at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, March 2, as Virat Kohli couldn't stop himself from teasing the star batter.
Shreyas Iyer shines with the bat but makes a horrible fielding blunder
Iyer showcased a batting masterclass in the match against the Kiwis and continued his good form in 50-over cricket. He was forced to come in to bat early after India lost Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli inside 7 overs.
Shreyas Iyer batted cautiously initially and was involved in a great partnership with all-rounder Axar Patel. The duo rescued India and made sure that they ended up with a decent score on the board.
Iyer was eventually dismissed in the 37th over as he fell in the short ball trap of Will O'Rourke. He walked back to the hut after registering 79 runs off 98 balls, with 4 fours and 2 sixes.
Meanwhile, in the second innings, Iyer was not at his very best on the field. On the last ball of the 7th over, Iyer completely lost the ball and produced a hilarious fielding moment.
Will Young played a good length ball outside off-stump from Axar Patel towards extra cover and it went towards Iyer, who midfielded it and allowed an easy single. Notably, Iyer lost the ball and spun around cluelessly only to realize later that it was near him.
Virat Kohli saw this and he was seen continuously teasing the batter for his blunder. The modern-day batting great was also seen hilariously mimicking Iyer.

What Happened in the Previous ODI Match Between India and New Zealand?
The last ODI between India and New Zealand was hosted at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 where the Men In Blue clinched a 70-run win.
Batting first, India put up a mammoth total of 397/4 on the board in their 50 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma provided a blistering start with a 29-ball 47, setting the tone for the innings.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli smashed a record-breaking 50th ODI century, scoring 117 off 113 balls. Shreyas Iyer played a destructive knock of 105 runs off just 70 balls, while Shubman Gill contributed a solid 80* runs before retiring hurt. KL Rahul also came up with late fireworks (39 off 20) that ensured India set a huge total.
Chasing the target, the Black Caps showcased a great fight but were bowled out for 327 in 48.5 overs. Daryl Mitchell led the charge with a stupendous 134 runs off 119 deliveries, while captain Kane Williamson contributed 69 runs.
Despite a strong middle-order fightback, they struggled against India's lethal bowling attack as Mohammed Shami switched on his beast mode and ran through the Kiwi batting unit, registering the figures of 7/57. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav also chipped in with crucial breakthroughs.
