It was Scott Boland's first ball in Test cricket since the Headingley Test in Ashes 2023. The right-arm fast bowler has an excellent record in Tests having claimed 35 wickets in 10 Tests so far at an average of 20.34.
Rahul could not make the most of this opportunity and was finally dismissed for 37 off 64 balls. He struck 6 fours during this knock and looked good by the time he was at the crease.
Virat Kohli dismissed cheaply in Adelaide
He was brilliantly caught by Nathan McSweeney at gully off the bowling of Mitchell Starc. Virat Kohli finally walked out to bat at the fall of KL Rahul's wicket.
However, he couldn't last long and was dismissed for just 7 runs. It was Mitchell Starc again who got the big wicket of Virat Kohli as he had him caught by Steve Smith at second slip.
Kohli has an exceptional record in Adelaide across formats. He has struck five hundreds in Adelaide across all the formats and had scored 957 runs in 15 innings before the ongoing Test match.
He has smashed three Test centuries in Adelaide Oval so far, which involved twin hundreds during the 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He was expected to score big in this Test after a magnificent hundred in Perth.
Australia take the upper hand in Adelaide
Meanwhile, India were reduced to 82-4 at lunch as Australia crawled their way back into the match with three quick wickets in the space of 12 runs. Mitchell Starc was the pick of Australia's bowlers in the first session as he picked up 3-31 in 8 overs.
Scott Boland gave him a good company and has picked up 1-24 so far. Boland picked up the big wicket of Shubman Gill, who looked good during his time at the crease.
Skipper Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant are at the crease looking to resurrect the Indian innings. Rohit pushed himself down the order in order to accomodate KL Rahul at the top.
