India started the three-match Test series against New Zealand in a disappointing fashion by losing the match by 8 wickets. it was an underwhelming performance from the Men in Blue, who were never ahead in the game.

After the defeat, the players were visibly disappointed with this performance and walked back to the dressing room with their shoulders down. However, Virat Kohli did something that was hardly expected of him at that point of time.

While the players were going back to the dressing room, Kohli tried to have some fun with his teammate Kuldeep Yadav. While all the players had the defeat in their minds, Kohli's bubbly nature was on display here.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli finally scored his first fifty-plus score this Test season. The 35-year-old scored a fine 70 off 102 balls during the second innings of the match. Kohli looked in good touch in this innings and showed aggressive intent at times.

The right-hander looked in absolute control for the most part of his innings. He was involved in a crucial partnership of 136 runs with Sarfaraz Khan. Both Kohli and Sarfaraz batted aggressively and showed great intent.

It was a great sign for Team India as Kohli is India's premier batter going ahead in this Test season. Virat Kohli also has a great record in Australia and will look to go into the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in good form.

India's second defeat at home within a year

Meanwhile, India suffered its second defeat at home in a year after the loss to New Zealand. The Men in Blue were bowled out for just 46 runs in their first innings, which is their third-lowest score in Test cricket ever. Virat Kohli was dismissed for a duck in this innings.

In reply, New Zealand piled on runs to score 402, thus taking a massive first innings lead of 356 runs. India came back hard with their batters showing intent to win the match. Sarfaraz Khan scored a magnificent hundred while Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant scored crucial fifties.

Sarfaraz scored 150 while Pant fell one run short of his hundred. But India's lower order failed to add much to the score as they succumbed to the second new ball taken by the visitors. As a result, New Zealand were left with a target of 107 runs to win the match.

New Zealand race towards the target

Needing 107 to win, New Zealand lost Tom Latham early on Day 5 to Jasprit Bumrah. But the Blackcaps showed calmness and composure to slowly reach closer to the target. The hero of the first innings Rachin Ravindra played his part in the second innings as well.

New Zealand chased down the target in 27.4 overs with 8 wickets in hand. Rachin Ravindra finished unbeaten on 39 off 46 balls while Will Young was not out on 48 off 76 deliveries. Fittingly, Rachin Ravindra was adjudged Player of the Match for his knocks in both the innings.
