Virat Kohli has once again proved that his fitness is top-notch with his outstanding fielding in the first ODI against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland on Wednesday (November 4). Virat Kohli took a brilliant diving catch to help India get rid of Nathan Smith, leaving everyone impressed with his sharp reflexes and commitment on the field in Auckland.
The wicket also caught everyone's attention because of Kohli's energetic and unique celebration after completing the catch to get rid of Smith in the five-match ODI series opener at Eden Park. Earlier, 'Flying' Rohit Sharma's fielding brilliance sends Daryl Mitchell packing in 1st ODI.
Virat Kohli turns back the clock with brilliant diving catch against New Zealand in 1st ODI
The Virat Kohli moment came in the 10th over when the Indian pacer Anshul Kamboj delivered a full ball outside off stump, giving the New Zealand batter Nathan Smith an opportunity to play a drive. He went for the shot with plenty of force but failed to get his bat properly behind the ball.
Smith managed only a thick outside edge, and the ball flew towards the second slip area, where Kohli was fielding. The catch was not easy at all, as the ball was travelling low and towards Kohli's right side. The former Indian captain reacted without wasting a second, as he dived to his right and grabbed the ball just inches above the ground.
However, Kohli was confident that he had taken a clean catch, but the third umpire checked the replays and confirmed that his fingers were underneath the ball. As a result, Smith has to walk out after scoring just one run from nine deliveries in the first ODI against India.
Virat Kohli's entertaining celebrations steal the spotlight
The catch itself was special, but it was Virat Kohli's celebrations that made the moment even more entertaining. After the third umpire confirmed the dismissal, he looked completely pumped up, proving his energy, sharpness and passion on the field remain as strong as ever.
The dashing right-hander was also seen making a gesture towards someone in the Indian team huddle, as if reminding them that he had taken the catch cleanly. Kohli then performed his famous Bow and Arrow celebration. He followed it up by sticking out his tongue and sharing a cheeky smile.
