India national cricket team batter Virat Kohli didn’t live up to expectations during the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh. Virat Kohli was dismissed after scoring a mere six runs in India’s first innings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday, September 19.

Bangladesh fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud troubled Indian batters with exceptional bowling after winning the toss. The pacers made the most of the bowling-friendly conditions in Chennai. They managed to pick up three crucial wickets in India’s first innings within the first hour.

Rohit Sharma was the first batter to be dismissed in India’s innings. Sharma edged the ball to slip, where Najmul Hossain Shanto completed the catch. Hasan Mahmud then dismissed Shubman Gill, who edged a delivery down the leg side, with Litton Das taking the catch behind the wickets.

Hasan Mahmud took Virat Kohli’s wicket on the second ball of the 10th over. Kohli chased an outside off-stump delivery with hard hands for a big drive away from his body, resulting in a healthy edge.

Wicketkeeper Litton Das completed the simple catch. The Indian team lost their third wicket with 34 runs.

The 35-year-old batter returned to the Test squad after missing the five-match series against England earlier this year. The star batter looked confident with his shots in his comeback game. However, Virat Kohli couldn't score many runs to start the series against Bangladesh on a high note.

Bangladesh Have Put Their Hand Up - Ravichandran Ashwin

Before the start of the match, Ravichandran Ashwin said that the pitch could benefit fast bowlers with a lot of bounce, and provide value for bowlers as well. He praised Bangladesh for their recent performances, adding that they are no longer an underdog in cricket.

"It's always been a good Test match pitch. We are gonna be playing on a red soil pitch again. There'll be a lot of bounce, there's going to be value for bowlers as well. All facets of the game will be in play."

"Certainly they (Bangladesh) have put their hand up and said, 'look we are a team on the rise and we are playing wonderful cricket.' I watched some of those clips (vs Pakistan), it wasn't live in India, truly an exceptional result for the Bangladeshi cricket team."

"I am one of those guys who loves to see the underdog come out and perform. You can't call them an underdog anymore, they have played some wonderful cricket. They challenged us in Bangladesh when we were there the last time. Really looking forward to a good series."
