Rohan Jaitley, president of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) president, felicitated Virat Kohli on Friday (January 31) as the batting superstar represented Delhi in their ongoing Ranji Trophy game against Railways.
The former India skipper donned the Delhi jersey after a gap of 12 years. Before the ongoing game, his last appearance for Delhi came against Uttar Pradesh way back in 2012. Unsurprisingly, there was a massive buzz among the fans to see Virat Kohli bat in domestic cricket once again.
Fans gathered in large numbers at the Arun Jaitley Stadium even before the game started to see the batting superstar's practice session.
On day one of the Ranji Trophy game, Virat Kohli did not get the chance to bat. However, he walked out to bat on day two with thousands of fans cheering for him from the stands. The stadium was filled with chants of 'Kohli, Kohli' as the veteran batsman made his way into the middle in the morning session after Yash Dhull's departure.
However, Virat Kohli failed to live up to the expectations as he lasted only 15 balls. After hitting Himanshu Sangwan for a beautiful four, the India superstar was clean-bowled by an in-swinger from the Railway pacer on the very next ball. As a result, Kohli had to depart for only 6 runs, much to the disappointment of the fans.
Virat Kohli felicitated by DDCA:
After the end of the second day's play, DDCA decided to felicitate Virat Kohli. They organized a felicitation event on the ground for one of Delhi's most decorated batsmen of all time. The event was graced by several dignitaries, including DDCA president Rohan Jaitley.
Jaitley presented Virat Kohli with a memento in recognition of his contribution to Delhi and Indian cricket. During the same event, a heartwarming moment involving Kohli and his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma was also witnessed.
Kohli was seen touching the feet of his coach to seek his blessings before receiving the honour from the DDCA president.

Talking about the game, Delhi have tightened their grip on the contest despite Kohli's failure. At the end of the second day's play, Delhi were on 334/7, leading Railways by 93 runs. Captain Ayush Badoni led his team from the front, scoring 99 runs off just 77 balls. Sumit Kumar scored a fifty as well and was unbeaten on 77 at stumps. Earlier in the game, Railways were all out for 241 runs in their first innings.
Meanwhile, Kohli will be hoping to deliver with the bat if he gets the opportunity to bat in the second innings. He has struggled with his form in recent times and will be desperate to get some runs under his belt before playing for Team India.
