Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced a massive blow in the ongoing IPL 2025 opener against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). All-rounder Ramandeep Singh got injured while fielding at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in the curtain-raiser of IPL 2025.
Ramandeep Singh, during the 5th over of the second innings, went on to take the catch of Virat Kohli. However, the ending didn't go the way he would've wanted, as he hurt himself badly, and things didn't look good for the Kolkata Knight Riders and all-rounder.
Harshit Rana bowled a length delivery outside off stump to Virat Kohli. The RCB batter went hard and got a thick edge. Ramandeep Singh covered a lot of ground running to the right at third man but couldn't get to the ball in time and closed his hands.
Ramandeep Singh ended up jamming his fingers into the ground and looked in a lot of pain. The physios also came out rushing to attend him. The play also got halted for a while as the Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder looked in immense pain.

Thankfully, the injury wasn't that serious as Ramandeep Singh was back on the field after that. However, him not being able to take the catch of Virat Kohli cost Kolkata Knight Riders as the RCB batter played a match-winning innings to take his team off a flying start in IPL 2025.

He ended with the innings of unbeaten 59 runs off 36 balls, batting with a strike rate of over 163. He also hit 4 fours and 3 sixes during his knock.
Chasing the target of 175 runs, Phil Salt (56) and Virat Kohli added 95 runs for the opening stand. The premier batter carried his bat through while skipper Rajat Patidar (34) and Liam Livingstone (15*) supported him as Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the first match of IPL 2025 by 7 wickets.
Kolkata Knight Riders struggled to score big after having a powerful start with the bat
Earlier in the day, Kolkata Knight Riders struggled to score big, especially after the kind of start they had. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane led from the front and played a brilliant innings of 56 runs off 31 balls. He, along with Sunil Narine (44), put pressure on RCB bowlers with their 103-run stand.
But, the hosts couldn't capitalise on the start they had. Angkrish Raghuvanshi (30) played a decent hand as well but RCB bowlers didn't let the batters go big. Krunal Pandya was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged three wickets while Josh Hazlewood took two scalps.
