Virat Kohli finally made his much-awaited return to One-Day Internationals on Friday (August 2) during the first ODI of the ongoing three-match series between India and Sri Lanka.
The former India skipper had not played an ODI since the World Cup final last year. After the World Cup, India played an ODI series in South Africa but most of the senior players including Virat Kohli were rested for that assignment. And after a gap of almost 10 months, Virat Kohli as well as captain Rohit Sharma returned to action in the 50-over format.
With Sri Lanka opting to bat first, Virat Kohli did not get the chance to bat early in the game. However, he still managed to make his presence felt in the game by pulling off a brilliant save. The veteran batsman once again showed that age is just a number as he came up with the stunning dive to save a certain boundary.
On the 3rd ball of the 16th over, Shivam Dube bowled a pitched-up delivery and Sadeera Samarawickrama played a fine drive off the front foot. The ball looked set to race away to the boundary but Virat Kohli dived to his left side at short cover to stop the ball. Although he could not stop the ball completely, he did enough to ensure that the ball did not go to the boundary.

Kohli will be looking to make an impact with the bat as well. In his last ODI assignment, the right-handed batsman had enjoyed a stunning campaign. In the ODI World Cup last year, he finished the tournament as the highest run-scorer, scoring 765 runs in 11 games with the help of 3 centuries and 6 half-centuries.
Talking about the game, Sri Lanka were reeling at 101/5 after 27 overs at the time of writing this report. Opener Pathum Nissanka gave Sri Lanka a good start by scoring 56 runs but other batters have failed to do well so far. Sri Lanka will be hoping to post a competitive total.
