Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag didn’t hold back as he slammed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) after their slow and lifeless action in the IPL 2025 clash on Friday (April 25) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Virender Sehwag compared the slow-paced IPL 2025 action between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad to "slow poison" as he mocked both teams for showing zero intent and playing like they had already given up during the match on Friday.
Virender Sehwag brutally roasts CSK and SRH after slow IPL 2025 show
The former India opener joked that IPL matches between bottom-ranked teams like CSK and SRH are so boring that even pride doesn’t seem to matter to them. Notably, before the Chepauk clash, CSK were at the 10th spot in the IPL 2025 points table, while SRH were in ninth place.
However, after thrashing Chennai Super Kings by five wickets, Sunrisers Hyderabad jumped to the eighth spot, with Rajasthan Royals slipping to the ninth spot, while CSK remained at the bottom-ranked team in the IPL 2025 points table with only four points from nine games so far.

It was slow poison: Virender Sehwag
Virender Sehwag was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz, “It was slow. Slow Poison. It will run slowly. How can they hit the speed suddenly? It is not a cobra that he once bit; the game is over. This is how it is. When the number 10 and number 9 teams play matches, those matches are slow poison. There is no interest in the match. Because they don't want to go anywhere.”
Trolling CSK and SRH, Sehwag noted that neither side looked hungry to win, and instead, it felt like both were competing to lose first. It was a brutal and direct dig at CSK’s famous fighting spirit, as the cricket expert suggested that their energy was completely missing in the ongoing IPL 2025.
Sehwag further said, “They are playing for their pride. But today I didn't even feel that both the teams were playing for their pride. Both CSK and SRH were like, I will lose, I will lose, I will lose.”

Virender Sehwag slams MS Dhoni's captaincy vs SRH
Earlier, Sehwag slammed MS Dhoni for sending Sam Curran to bat at No.3, saying Dewald Brevis should have batted ahead of the England all-rounder. He also said that CSK has been missing their regular captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, who was scoring consistently for the franchise.
Sharing his thoughts on CSK’s batting line-up, Sehwag said, “I can’t understand what Sam Curran is doing at No. 3 in this line-up. He has played up the order for sure; he has batted No. 4 in ILT20, and he has played that role intelligently.
But, in this lineup, when you have Brevis, play him at No. 3. Then Dube can come in next, followed by Jadeja, Sam Curran, and Deepak Hooda. They are missing Ruturaj Gaikwad in this line-up; he used to make runs in Chennai consistently.”
Notably, Chennai Super Kings will now face Punjab Kings in their next IPL 2025 match on April 30 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. CSK’s IPL 2025 campaign has been a rough ride, thanks to injuries, poor form, and unsettled strategies, and now they are virtually out of the playoffs race.
