The 25-year-old India National Cricket Team spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar displayed an exceptional performance with the bat in the fifth Test match against the England National Cricket Team.

Washington Sundar showcased his aggressive avatar in the fifth and final match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 and destroyed the English bowling unit at Kennington Oval in London.

Washington Sundar hits unbelievable half-century

Sundar smashed a sensational century in the previous Test match at Old Trafford in Manchester to help India pull off a historic draw on English soil.

He continued his good batting form in the series finale and registered a crucial 26 runs off 55 balls, with three fours, in the first innings.

The young all-rounder bettered his performance in the second innings and blasted an epic fifty. He arrived in the middle after Dhruv Jurel fell to Jamie Overton on the second ball of the 77th over.

Washington Sundar built an important 34-run stand with Ravindra Jadeja, and after his dismissal, launched a brutal attack on the England bowling unit.

Sundar shocked England with his brutal assault and made the bowlers look clueless. He blasted a fifty from just 39 balls and then got out while trying to play a big shot in the 88th over.

On the last ball of the over, Josh Tongue bowled a full-length delivery down the leg side to Sundar, who only managed to get a leading edge, and the ball went up in the air.

Zak Crawley and Ollie Pope converged and settled under the ball at mid-wicket and had no clue about each other's presence right up until the last second.

However, despite a small collision, Zak Crawley managed to hold onto the ball and dismissed Washington Sundar for 53 runs off 46 balls as England were set a target of 374 runs.

This is thoroughly entertaining - Ravi Shastri

Speaking on BBC Test Match Special, former England skipper Michael Vaughan said that England made a mistake by bowling in Sundar's arc. He said:

"England are bowling into Washington Sundar's arc. The problem England are going to have is they're going to have a tricky hour or so batting."

Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri, while speaking on Sky Sports, labelled Sundar's innings as magnificent and thoroughly entertaining. He said:

"This is magnificent batting from Washington, he is backing himself and his strengths. He said after his innings at Old Trafford that the century would do wonders for his confidence. This is thoroughly entertaining."

Ravi Shastri also said that the half-century from Sundar would lift the Indian dressing room. He said:

"Washington is showing the promise to play for India for a long, long time. An innings like this lifts the dressing room. A fabulous half-century, this. He has scored 35 off his last 12 balls."
