Team India off-spinner Washington Sundar starred with the ball on Day 1 of the ongoing second Test of the three-match Test series against New Zealand in Pune. Washington Sundar made a mess of New Zealand batter Tim Southee's stumps with a brilliant delivery to complete his five-wicket haul.

New Zealand skipper Tom Latham won the toss and opted to bat first at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Thursday, October 24. The visitors made only one change to their lineup after a historic win in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, the home team made three changes to their side.

Ravichandran Ashwin Provided an Early Breakthrough for India

Devon Conway and Tom Latham started the day on a positive note against fast bowler Ravichandran Ashwin, who dismissed Latham in his first over. Ashwin then picked up the wickets of Will Young (18 runs off 45 deliveries) and Devon Conway (76 off 141 balls) to restrict the visiting team to 138-3.

Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell added a 59-run stand for the fourth wicket to stabilize the innings. Rachin batted comfortably against Indian bowlers and reached his century. Washington Sundar broke the partnership by dismissing Ravindra, who scored 65 runs off 105 balls, with an absolute peach.
