Xavier Bartlett has started his journey in international cricket stunningly. The highly-rated bowler was handed his debut cap before the ongoing first ODI between Australia and West Indies at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

He received his maiden ODI cap from Queensland and Brisbane Heat teammate Marnus Labuschagne and did not take long to make an impact. Xavier Bartlett earned his first ODI call-up after impressing in the recently concluded Big Bash League season.

The right-arm pacer made a big impression with his display with the new ball as well as in the death overs. He went on to finish the season as the highest wicket-taker, taking 20 wickets in 11 games. The stunning display for Brisbane Heat also saw Xavier Bartlett making it to the Team of the Tournament for the first time.

After getting his maiden ODI call-up, Xavier Bartlett did not take long to announce his arrival in international cricket. He bowled an absolute beauty in his very first over in international cricket to dismiss Justin Greaves. On the third ball of the second over, the Australian youngster beat Greaves all up to give his team the first breakthrough.

The delivery from Xavier Bartlett was pitched up and moved away at the last moment to beat Greaves’ outside edge. The ball went on to hit the top of the off-stump as Greaves departed after scoring just 1 run.

In his very next over, he dismissed Alick Athanaze as well to leave the visitors reeling at 17 for 2. Later in the 10th over of the innings, Xavier Bartlett struck again to dismiss West Indies Shai Hope, sending him back for just 12 runs.

The debutant’s spell has put Australia in the driver’s seat in the series opener. In his first 6 overs, he has conceded only 10 runs while taking 3 wickets. At the time of writing this report, West Indies were on 90 for 4 after 24 overs. Australia would be looking to get back to winning ways after losing the second Test while the visitors would be keen to recover in the ongoing game and extend their winning run.
