West Indies On the Verge of Innings Defeat Against Team India
On the third day, Nitish Kumar Reddy made a notable impact by taking a sharp flying catch to dismiss West Indies opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul. Chanderpaul had already struggled in the first innings, scoring a duck off 11 balls, and managed only 8 runs from 23 deliveries in the second innings.
Mohammed Siraj provided an early breakthrough for his team on the second ball of the eighth over of West Indies’ second innings. This wicket was Siraj’s fifth dismissal in the match, giving India further control over the game.
Chanderpaul’s dismissal left the visitors at 12/1 after 7.2 overs. At the time of writing, West Indies were 47/5 in their second innings, still 239 runs behind India, with Alick Athanaze (18) and Justin Greaves (0) at the crease.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Failed to Convert Start into Big Score in First Innings
Earlier on Day 1, India struck with the new ball as Mohammed Siraj delivered a fine spell. He took 4 wickets for 40 runs as the West Indies were bowled out for just 162 in 44.1 overs. The visitors had no answer to the disciplined bowling attack and folded cheaply in their first innings.
In India’s reply, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 36 runs, while Sai Sudharsan was dismissed for only seven. KL Rahul smashed a century, his 11th in Tests and second at home, scoring 100 from 197 balls before being dismissed. Skipper Shubman Gill also contributed 50 runs from 100 deliveries.
Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja shared a 206-run stand for the fifth wicket. Jurel reached his maiden Test hundred with 125 runs, while Jadeja remained unbeaten on 104, his sixth century. India declared at 448/5 after 128 overs.
