The very first day of The Hundred saw a bizarre interview between Australian cricketer Maitlan Brown and Chris Hughes. The Hundred got underway on Tuesday (August 1) at Trent Bridge with Southern Brave Women and Trent Rockets Women up against each other in the tournament opener.

As Maitlan Brown’s team Southern Brave Women was batting, Chris Hughes decider to interview her on the sidelines. And it did not take the interview long to get awkward and bizarre. Hughes, who participated in the popular reality show Love Island in 2017, has been facing the heat on social media for the interview.

While the interview began in a normal manner, Chris Hughes ended up making it awkward after Maitlan Brown revealed that she and her teammates watched Barbie the previous night as a part of the team-bonding exercise.

“We watched Barbie the other night altogether and it was really good team bonding and the group is gelling really well together,” said Maitlan Brown. “That is the key to success I think in tournaments like this, how well and how quickly you can gel as a group.”

In reply, Hughes bizarrely said: “You’re a little Barbie yourself innit with your blue eyes.”

Maitlan Brown was seen having an awkward laugh after the comment before Hughes said: “She’s blushing now.”

Talking about the game, Southern Brave Women began their campaign in The Hundred with an impressive 27-run win over Trent Rockets. A fifty from India star Smriti Mandhana propelled them to a challenging total of 157 for 6 in 100 balls. Mandhana scored 55 off 36 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes.

In reply, Trent Rockets Women finished their innings on 130 for 7. Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt top-scored for the home side, scoring 49 off 31 balls. For Southern Brave Women, Mary Taylor was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 for 18.
