Punjab Kings (PBKS) superstar leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal bagged a stunning hat-trick against the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Wednesday, April 30.

Yuzvendra Chahal also hit his iconic pose after achieving the feat in the 49th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Yuzvendra Chahal takes historic hat-trick

Chahal was brought in by Shreyas Iyer to bowl his 3rd over in the 19th over of the innings against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) when explosive batters MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube were batting in the middle.

He started off the over with a wide before being dispatched for a six by MS Dhoni. However, he bounced back strong to dismiss MS Dhoni on the next ball.

On the third ball of the over, Deepak Hooda took a double off Yuzvendra Chahal, and after that, the leg-spinner showed why he is the leading wicket-taker in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Chahal bowled a floated full toss to Hooda, who hit into the hands of Priyansh Arya, and then on the next ball, he rattled the stumps of Anshul Kamboj with a stunner. On the last ball of the over, Chahal dismissed Noor Ahmad to complete a stunning hat-trick. After that, Chahal hit his trademark pose on the ground to celebrate the feat.

Notably, this is the second hat trick that Chahal has picked in the Indian Premier League, as he first achieved the milestone while playing for the Rajasthan Royals.

While talking about his celebration during the mid-innings break, Chahal said that it came from memes, and he planned to do it whenever he bagged a 5-wicket haul or a hat-trick. He said:

"It came from the memes and I had planned to do this celebration if I take a five-fer or a hat-trick."

Chahal's hat-trick on Wednesday became the first hat-trick against Chennai Super Kings in the history of the Indian Premier League and just the second at Chepauk after Balaji's 2008 hat-trick.

The PBKS leg-spinner also broke Sunil Narine's record for most 4-plus wicket hauls in IPL and became just the third bowler after Amit Mishra and Yuvraj Singh to take multiple hat-tricks in IPL. Furthermore, he became the fourth Punjab Kings bowler to take a hat-trick after Yuvraj Singh, Amit Mishra, and Sam Curran.
