On this wicket, we walked off confident, chasing 206 - Pat Cummins
Opting to bowl first in the match, Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers pulled things back very well and restricted Lucknow Super Giants to 205/7 as Eshan Malinga (2/28), Harsh Dubey (1/44), Harshal Patel (1/49), and Nitish Kumar Reddy (1/28) picked up wickets.
Chasing the target, SRH lost Atharva Taide early, but Abhishek Sharma played a brilliant knock of 59 runs and was supported very well by Ishan Kishan (35).
Heinrich Klaasen (47) and Kamindu Mendis (32) also chipped in with good runs, and SRH completed the run chase in 18.2 overs to knock Lucknow Super Giants out of the playoffs race.
During the post-match presentation ceremony, SRH captain Pat Cummins said that they were confident about chasing down the target. Pat Cummins stated:
"Probably a few more than we would have liked. I thought we brought the total back in the middle overs, at one stage it looked like 220. On this wicket, we walked off confident, chasing 206."
He has been brilliant - Pat Cummins on Eshan Malinga
Pat Cummins also lavished praise on pacer Eshan Malinga for delivering brilliant performances for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He said:
"He has been brilliant. He's worked well with the coaches and developed his game. Huge asset for us."
Pat Cummins also expressed delight over the way SRH batters played in the match against LSG and wished they batted the same way in all the matches. He said:
"I think, at times. When we were at our best, it doesn't look like they take too many risks like tonight. They are class and clean strikers and got so many options. They took their options and batted well. Probably, could have done this a bit more throughout the season."
In the end, Pat Cummins said that they would take a lot of confidence heading into the next season as they have got a great squad. He said:
"I think a lot of confidence going into the next year. It is a lot of the same guys. We know when we come together, we are going to be a great side as we showed tonight. Probably in the next game, it is about giving opportunity to the other guys."
SRH faced a defeat to LSG in their previous IPL clash
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) lost their previous match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on March 27, 2025, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad by five wickets with 23 balls to spare.
Batting first after losing the toss, SRH got off to a quick start with Travis Head smashing 47 runs off 28 balls. However, his dismissal triggered a mini-collapse. Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan fell to Shardul Thakur in the same over early on, and SRH couldn't really recover from those setbacks.
Nitish Kumar Reddy (32 off 28) and Heinrich Klaasen (26 off 17) chipped in with crucial runs, while Aniket Verma's 36 runs off 13 balls provided much-needed momentum in the death overs that helped SRH reach 190/9.
Defending the total, SRH bowlers were decimated by aggressive LSG batters, who took the game away from the Orange Army early on in the innings. Though Pat Cummins dismissed both Mitchell Marsh (52) and Nicholas Pooran (70), it was too late. SRH tried rotating bowlers, but their attack leaked runs and ultimately, LSG finished off the run-chase in 16.1 overs.
