Indian swashbuckling batsman Surya Kumar Yadav has said that the team that has come to Sri Lanka is excited about the upcoming challenge and it’s focussed on taking positives from the white-ball affair.
India will lock horns with Sri Lanka in a series of three ODIs and as many T20Is later this month.
With the likes of Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, and several other stars currently in England, India has named a lot of youngsters in their squad for the Sri Lankan white-ball assignment.
The squad which is led by Shikhar Dhawan under the coaching of Rahul Dravid consists of several uncapped who will be looking forward to leaving an impression with their performances in the ODIs and T20Is.
With several first-choice names from the Indian squad missing, former Sri Lankan captain Arjuna Ranatunga recently lashed out on SLC for agreeing to play with what he termed as a ‘second string’ Indian team.
“This is a second-string Indian team and their coming here is an insult to our cricket. I blame the current administration for agreeing to play with them due to television marketing needs.” Arjuna Ranatunga had said.
Ranatunga’s comments led to a furor as fans and several former cricketers lambasted the former World Cup-winning captain for his remarks.
Even if India is fielding a team without its several superstars, it is still strong that the first-choice Sri Lankan side, which is in dire straits at the moment.
But for Surya Kumar Yadav and co, it’s all about focussing on their own game, enjoying the challenge, and making the most out of whatever opportunities they get in the upcoming six matches.
“Not really (we don’t talk about that). Everyone is completely focused. The way the practice sessions are going, the way the game went yesterday, it’s going according to plan and we are really excited for the challenge. We are not thinking about that (this being a second-string side). We are just here to have some fun, enjoy this series and take a lot of positives from here,” Surya Kumar Yadav said in a virtual press conference from Colombo on Tuesday (July 06).
