Rashid Khan, an Afghanistan spinner, said that because they only get to play a few Test matches each year, he is not yet considering how to manage his workload. However, the leg-spinner said that representing one’s country should come first.

Since 2018, Rashid, one of the most wanted T20 players in the world, has appeared in each of Afghanistan’s five Test matches. However, they played Zimbabwe in their final Test in March 2021.

The 23-year-old emphasised in an interview with ESPN Cricinfo that each player must be aware of how much cricket they can play. Rashid, though, thinks that his ability to play in various T20 leagues is made possible by Afghanistan’s less hectic schedule.

“You must always ask yourself as a player, “How much cricket can I play?” How much strain can your body handle? That is vital information. We do not play a lot of Tests in international matches, so we do not have a similarly hectic schedule. We do not hold five or ten Test matches per year,” added Rashid.

“If that were the case for me, I would have surely chosen a few leagues where I could take myself and play more for my national team,” he added.

The young man said he was working on a couple fresh pitches, one of which he used against Bangladesh and in the PSL. Rashid, however, vowed to use his tried-and-true strategies in the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup.

“I do make an effort to have various delivery. I have not introduced that into the game yet; for now I am just bowling them in the nets. In the PSL and the series against Bangladesh, I bowled a few times with the slow leg-spin I had been practising “the Afghanistan star continued.

Ahead of the upcoming season of the BBL, Rashid is likely to return to the Adelaide Strikers. However, he will not be available for the entire tournament. With 92 scalps in 61 games, he is the second-highest wicket-taker amongst spinners in BBL history.
