Indian skipper Virat Kohli on Tuesday said that his team does not wait for the opportunity for the opposition to get weak to beat them.

India was ranked the No.1 Test team for nearly four years and in the last few months, they defeated Australia in their backyard for the second time in a row, even though the team was troubled with numerous injuries. India also defeated England 3-1 at home after losing the first Test in Chennai.

England are missing the service of their star all-rounder Ben Stokes as he is on an indefinite break from the game to work on his mental health issues and be next to his family during that period. Ahead of the Lord’s Test, senior England bowler Stuart Broad suffered a calf injury and subsequently, he was ruled out of the entire season.

India won the second Test by 151 runs after their tail-enders displayed a classic performance with the bat and later bowled out England for 120 on the final day. Many experts believe that this is India’s best chance to win a Test series in England since the last time they won in 2007 under Rahul Dravid’s captaincy.

Even when the key players are playing, we think we can beat anyone: Virat Kohli

Kohli was asked in the press conference that is it the best time for his team to win the series in the absence of England’s key players and the captain dismissed the question by saying his team is capable of winning against strong opposition as well.

“Does that depend on the strength of the opposition? Even when the key players are playing, we think we can beat anyone. We don’t wait for the opposition to be weak,” Kohli said.

“I don’t think that’s the right question to ask to a team that has been playing such good cricket for the last so many years, that we depend on the team to be weak to have an opportunity to win a series. That’s not how we play and approach a series,” he added.

India will meet England in the third Test at Headingley, Leeds on Wednesday (August 25).
