We Have Come Little Ahead And There Is A Lot Of Work To Be Done: Indian Women Coach Ramesh Powar

India’s women coach Ramesh Powar has reckoned that the team has come ‘a little ahead’ since the South African series in March but a lot of work still needs to be done in the forthcoming months.
The ‘Women in Blue’ rounded off their England tour with a disappointing performance in the T20I series decider as a three-wicket-haul from Sophie Ecclestone and a belligerent 56-ball 89* by Dani Wyatt helped the hosts chase down 153 in 18.4 overs to win the multi-format series 10-6.
Speaking to the media, Ramesh Powar accepted that while there is still a lot of work to be done in all formats of the game, he reckoned that Sneh Rana”s inspirational come back to the setup after five years and a steady improvement in bowling and especially fielding are the biggest positives for the Indians.
“Sneh Rana coming back after five years and putting on a show is inspirational. There are lot many positives, scoring 154 against the top side, we want to score high in T20Is and ODIs (score 250),” said Ramesh Powar during the virtual press-conference as quoted by ANI.
“Fielding has improved, bowling has improved and if you compare to South Africa we have come little ahead and there is a lot of work to be done,” he added.

However, Ramesh Powar also admitted that if India has to do well in the upcoming 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, the veteran duo of Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami will need support from other players.
The former Indian spinner pointed out that with the World Cup set to take place in New Zealand, the two biggest areas where the team needs to improve are the fast bowling arena (sans Jhulan) and the strike-rotation during the middle-overs.
“We have to have match time, in the fast bowling department there is only Jhulan, there has to be some support to her, then middle overs batting after powerplay in ODIs, that’s where strike rotation and little bit conversion from dot balls to runs should be there after you get set,” said Ramesh Powar.
“In Test cricket, there are a lot of things to learn about, still we managed to draw that game. In T20Is we have to score 160 plus, to put some pressure. For World Cup in New Zealand we have to have good fast bowlers and the middle overs are where we are trying to get that conversion rate, Mithali is batting very well but she needs support, to get to 250,” he added.
