"We lost quick wickets": MS Dhoni throws teammates under the bus after CSK's loss to RR

I think we lost quick wickets - MS Dhoni

Being invited to bat first in the match, Chennai Super Kings posted 187/8 on the board as they were unable to finish on a strong note. Ayush Mhatre (43), Dewald Brevis (42), and Shivam Dube (39) were the top three performers.

Defending the total, Ravichandran Ashwin bagged two wickets while Anshul Kamboj and Noor Ahmad got one wicket each, but RR managed to complete the run-chase in 17.1 overs.

Speaking after the match, MS Dhoni, who scored 16 runs off 17 balls, said that they posted a good score on the board, but lost quick wickets, which hurt them. MS Dhoni stated:

"If you look at the amount of runs we have put on the board, it's very good. But if you look at the wicket, I think we lost quick wickets. It puts pressure on the lower-middle order. Brevis played really well. I feel the runs were up, the run-rate was up but we lost two or more wickets."

He gets a good seam movement - MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni was mighty impressed with the young pacer Anshul Kamboj and showered rich praise on him, but highlighted that he doesn't get much swing. He said:

"Anshul is good. He gets a good seam movement. He doesn't get much swing. I feel the ball hits you harder than the speed gun suggests. We are just trying to ease him in. Try not to give too many runs in the first six overs. He has bowled three overs inside the powerplay. It's tough but he has done well when the batters are set and trying to score freely."

MS Dhoni, in the end, said that the CSK batters need to show consistency and play longer innings. He elaborated:

"I think it's the consistency that you have to look for. If you are looking at an SR of 200, then getting the consistency is hard. They need to back themselves to play long innings. Don't take that extra pressure. When you have a good season, people expect a lot of things from you. It's the first season. Don't try too many things. Learn from the experienced players and the support staff. Try to finish the games, and that would be my advice to the young players."

How was CSK's performance in the previous IPL match against RR?

Chennai Super Kings suffered a six-run defeat against Rajasthan Royals in their previous Indian Premier League clash on March 30, 2025, in Guwahati.

Bowling first in the match, CSK had a decent outing. Khaleel Ahmed, Noor Ahmad, and Matheesha Pathirana picked up two wickets each, but Nitish Rana’s 81-run knock hurt them.

Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin also chipped in with a wicket each, and Chennai Super Kings managed to restrict the Rajasthan Royals to 182/9.

In the chase, CSK got off to a horrible start, losing Rachin Ravindra for a duck before Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad steadied the innings, with the CSK skipper scoring 63 off 44 balls. But the innings got off track soon after Wanindu Hasaranga was introduced.

Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni gave their best in the end over and tried to take CSK past the finish line, but the latter's dismissal in the 20th over came as a big blow and CSK were restricted to 176/6.
