Virat Kohli is currently on a break from international cricket and will return to cricket in the Test series against South Africa. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma both asked for some time away from the game after helping the team reach the final of the World Cup.
After the tournament, Kohli had informed the selection committee that he wanted some time away from the game and that he will be unavailable for the white-ball leg of the South Africa tour.
Meanwhile, AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli’s good friend is expecting him to make a grand return to Test cricket. ABD is willing Kohli to get back his old form with the bat and be that in-your-face kind of cricketer that he was as a captain. He further warned the Proteas to be aware of the former Indin captain’s hunger for scoring runs.

Virat Kohli Will Be Fired Up: AB de Villiers
“We will see the best of Virat. I cannot wait to see the chest out, the eye contact with the opposition, and being a bit verbal with everyone. Because he will be fired up for this series. South Africa will need to be careful. This Indian squad is pure world-class,” said ABD on his official YouTube channel.
He further spoke about how Kohli and Rohit must be feeling after the 2023 final loss to Australia Villiers himself faced the same situation when South Africa lost to the Kiwis in the 2015 semi-final and thus found it very relatable.
“When we had lost in the semifinal in 2015, I can’t remember it is just a blur the next few months. I just didn’t want to know cricket and wanted to just pack my kit away. What works for Virat and Rohit is that they haven’t won a Test series in South Africa. For them, this is a great opportunity. We had the opportunity to win an ODI series in India just a few months after the 2015 World Cup and I was incredibly motivated as I thought this is the opportunity to show that we were still the best team in the world” said De Villiers.
Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be back for the two-match Test series against South Africa. The Test series will be a part of the WTC 2023-25 cycle. The first Test starts on December 26 in Centurion. Cape Town hosts the second Test from January 3-7, 2024.
