Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim shed light on him taking retirement once again from the international circuit after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir were the two players that the Pakistan Cricket Board called back for the mega T20 tournament. The Pakistani team wanted to count on them because of the plethora of experience they had in the shortest format of the game.

However, Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir could not do anything to keep Pakistan away from getting knocked out of the group stages itself. It is the same team that reached the semi-final and final of the previous two T20 WC editions in UAE (2021) and Australia (2022). The 2024 edition was supposed to be the one where they claim the title after 15 years.

But it was not made possible and the Pakistani team doesn't have anyone to blame but themselves. Losing back-to-back matches against USA and then India was always going to make things difficult for them and unlike the 2022 WC, the Green Army are not backed by their luck.

Following their exit from the 20-team event, a lot of questions were raised against the PCB management's decision to call up retired players. For that, Imad Wasim was also taken under the scope, and in the latest press conference, the all-rounder spoke about his retirement plans.

What did Imad Wasim say?

While speaking in a press conference on the eve of Pakistan's last group match of the T20 WC, Imad Wasim spoke about his and Mohammad Amir's retirement plans. He did not make anything clear to the reporters by saying that he is currently focused on his team's match against Ireland later today. He added that he would come to a conclusion only after the match not before it.

"As far as retirement is concerned, we have a match tomorrow. We will play the match and after that we will think about it and sort out whatever we need to," Wasim told reporters in Florida.

Wasim admits he and Amir returned to help Pakistan win the World Cup

Imad Wasim then added that the PCB is going to sort a lot of things in the team. He indicated the fact that a lot depends on the hierarchy's decisions as well. He also admitted that he and Mohammad Amir were brought back by the board to help the Green Army win the World Cup.

Wasim claimed that Pakistan's journey to the semis and the final of the last two T20 World Cups speak volumes about the team's potential. He labeled that as a significant achievement and indicated a new beginning of cricket in Pakistan.

"To be honest, a lot of things are about to be sorted out in the Pakistan team. The PCB Chairman and officials will sort them out. We came back for one reason, not just for the sake of playing. Amir and I returned to have one last go and win the World Cup. We have been playing in the T20 World Cup semi-finals and finals, which is a significant achievement," Imad Wasim concluded.
