India won the final One-Day International (ODI) match of the three-match ODI series against England at the Lord’s Cricket Ground on Saturday, September 24, and whitewashed the series 3-0.
Deepti Sharma ran out Charlie Dean at the non-striker’s end for backing up too far, and India won the match by 16 runs in a low-scoring game. Jhulan Goswami was playing his last international match for India and it ended with a touch of controversy.
Player of the match, Renuka Thakur took 4/29 as India bowled out England for 153 in the 44th over, chasing a total of 170 runs. Jhulan Goswami and Rajeshwari Gayakwad took two wickets.
Jhulan Goswami Ends Career With 255 ODI Wickets
England lost their ninth wicket with the score 118 runs on the board as Goswami dismissed Kate Cross with a big in-swinger. Indian legendary fast bowler tried to pick one more wicket to finish her career on a high note.
Charlie Dean (47) and Freya Davies* (10) put on a 35-run partnership for the last wicket before Sharma removed Dean, who looked dangerous, as England needed just 17 runs to win while chasing 170.
Deepti Sharma Run Out Charlie Dean At Non Striker’s End
In the 44th over, Deepti Sharma ran out Charlie Dean as she moved outside the crease at the non-strikers’ end, before the bowler ended his delivery stride. Third umpire upheld India’s appeal and ruled that the dismissal was legal. This Dismissal is no longer referred to be mankading and unfair. As per the new rules, it is a runout dismissal.
Earlier, Smriti Mandhana (50) and Deepti (68*) scored brilliant half-centuries helped India to reach 169 runs. Kate Cross took 4 wickets for 26 runs in her quota of 10 overs. England’s most successful bowler, finishing with 4/26.

A run out? Terrible way to finish the game

As Nasser Hussain said on commentary. “No.” https://t.co/BItCNJZqYB

I find the debate of the Mankad really interesting. So many views from either side. I personally wouldn’t like to win a match like that, also, very happy for others to feel differently https://t.co/BItCNJZqYB

Well within the laws but not in the spirit.
Just my opinion… the law should be changed back to a warning system or penalty runs for excessive backing up for eg

Spot on. No intention of bowling the ball ?

Will never understand why players feel the need to do this. Is she stealing ground? pic.twitter.com/KJi1Rgzmdi

What an average way to win a game! Yes it’s officially in the rules! But poor when the batsman wasn’t trying to gain an advantage! She was just walking in with the bowler and when the bowler should’ve released the ball she was still in her crease! Really poor #ENGvsIND #mankading https://t.co/ehPJOAJbG0

Legal but that’s just not cricket. Terrible way to end a terrific game. #ENGvsIND

Absolutely pathetic way to 'win' a cricket match.
The whole India team should be ashamed of themselves. https://t.co/TrGcU8CwqW— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) September 24, 2022
Utterly disappointing from Deepti Sharma and entire team India. Shameful to say the least. #ENGvIND
