Cricket West Indies (CWI) has officially announced the schedule for a historic three-match T20 International series against Nepal, set to take place in September in Sharjah. The West Indies and Nepal will play three T20I matches in their first-ever bilateral series, which will be held at a neutral venue.
The West Indies are currently on a tour of Ireland for a three-match T20I series, and the opening game was abandoned due to rain. Nepal are in Scotland for a T20I tri-series with the Netherlands. The two-time T20 World Cup champions are ranked fifth in the T20I rankings, while Nepal are placed 18th.
It's a Celebration of the Game's Expanding Global Footprint - CWI
CWI described the upcoming T20I series against Nepal as a “historic” event and a responsibility to contribute to the global expansion of the game. In an official statement, CWI emphasized that the series is more than just an international competition.
"This series is more than just a set of international matches - it's a celebration of the game's expanding global footprint and a testament to what cricket represents: pride, purpose, and the power of unity. As a full-member nation, we see it as part of our responsibility to contribute to the development of cricket beyond our borders," CWI chief executive Chris Dehring said in the statement.
We Are Proud to Stand With Nepal at This Moment - CWI
Cricket West Indies expressed its support for Nepal during this pivotal phase of their cricketing development. CWI also anticipates a thrilling and competitive series in Sharjah.
"Supporting Nepal in this key phase of their cricketing journey not only builds the sport at the grassroots and international levels but also reminds us of the deep pride and honour associated with representing our nation and wearing our national colours. We are proud to stand with Nepal at this moment in their history and look forward to exciting and competitive cricket in Sharjah."
Nepal Set to Host West Indies in First-Ever Bilateral T20I Series
West Indies and Nepal will meet in a three-match T20I series on September 27, 28, and 30. Nepal are the official hosts despite the matches being held at a neutral venue in Sharjah. The series will take place just ahead of Nepal’s campaign in the Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier later this year.
Nepal recently secured two wins over the Netherlands and one over Scotland in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup League 2. They also came close to pulling off a record chase of 324 against Scotland, narrowly falling short by just a few runs.
Cricket West Indies stated that they plan to field a competitive squad for the series. However, with the India Test series beginning on October 2, some key players, including white-ball captain Shai Hope and pacer Alzarri Joseph, who has just returned to the Test setup, may not be available for the T20Is against Nepal.
