All-rounder Chinelle Henry was included in the West Indies Women’s 16-member provisional squad for the first two ODIs of the upcoming three-match series against Ireland at home. Chinelle Henry recovered from the injury and regained her full fitness before the ODI series.

West Indies Under-19 Women’s captain Ashmini Munisar and her teammate wicketkeeper Shunelle Sawh received their maiden call-ups from the senior team. Munisar was the joint-third highest wicket-taker in the T20 Blaze, picking up six wickets in five matches with an economy of 3.31.

CWI’s lead selector for women’s cricket, Ann Browne-John said that the selectors are trying to give chances to the youngsters in the upcoming series against Ireland.

“The ODI series against Ireland gives a good opportunity for batters to focus and to stay longer at the crease and build an innings,” Ann Browne-John said.

“A number of the younger players would be transitioning from the shorter format to the 50-over format. They definitely have the potential, and it is important that the policy of identifying young players and developing the talent pool is continued.”

The West Indies and Ireland are in the last two places in the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25. The Windies won only one match, while Ireland lost all of their matches. Browne-John believes victory will help the team move up in the standings and qualify directly for the World Cup.

“The squad shows a great balance of batting coupled with a variety of bowling styles, which is something that has been lacking in the recent past. Victory here will provide valuable points as the team attempts to move up in the rankings and qualify for the World Cup,” Browne-John said.

The three ODIs will be played on June 26, 28, and July 1, and the three T20Is will all be played on July 4, 6, and 8. The selectors will finalize 13 members before the series starts.
