West Indies Playing 11 vs Pakistan- 1st ODI, Pakistan tour of West Indies 2025:
Openers: Brandon King, Evin Lewis
West Indies would want to put on an improved performance with the bat as compared to the three T20I series that preceded the ODIs against Pakistan.
The Shai Hope-led side was unable to get going with the bat in at least two of the three T20Is and failed to defend the score in the remaining one game.
Windies would want to get things right in the first ODI to start with and carry the momentum into the next two matches.
The lack of runs on the board has been one of the reasons that the team hasn't been able to register a win in 10 of the last 11 international matches that they have played.
The only win in question also came courtesy of Jason Holder's heroics with both bat and ball in the second of the three T20Is against Pakistan
The home team would like to have a winning start to the series in the first of the three ODIs against Pakistan and will open the batting with Brandon King and Evin Lewis.
King was in good form before the multi-format series against Pakistan and would look to carry that form in the opening match of the ODI series against the Men in Green.
King's partner at the other end, Evin Lewis, would also hope for a solid start to the series in order to strengthen his spot in the playing XI, as he has been in and out of it due to issues related to form and fitness.
Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Keacy Carty, Shai Hope(wk/c), Amir Jangoo, Justin Greaves, Roston Chase
Other than the form of the openers, the team management and the captain would be concerned about the performance of the middle-order batters.
Keacy Carty, Amir Jangoo, and Justin Graves were inconsistent in the team's last ODI assignment against England and would like to make a strong comeback in the home series against Pakistan.
The onus will be on captain Shai Hope and senior batter Roston Chase to guide the team to an above-par total while batting first.
Having said that, they would need the openers to lay a platform for them to capitalize on in the series opener.
Bowlers: Matthew Forde, Gudakesh Motie, Shamar Joseph, Jayden Seales
West Indies' bowling department comprises names like Matthew Forde, Gudakesh Motie, Shamar Joseph, and Jayden Seales, all of whom have performed well in a match or two but have lacked consistency.
Nevertheless, the West Indies will still bank on them to put on a strong show with the ball and make things easy for the batters if the Windies end up chasing the target in the first outing against Pakistan in ODI cricket since 2022.
Out of all the bowlers, Jayden Seales will be entrusted with the responsibility to pick early wickets, being one of the senior bowlers of the team, and will be supported by Shamar Joseph and Matthew Forde.
West Indies might go into the match against Pakistan with a sole specialist spinner in the form of Gudakesh Motie, with Roston Chase being the second spinner.
