West Indies Playing XI vs India- 1st Test, West Indies Tour of India 2025
Openers: Tagenarine Chanderpaul, John Campbell
The Windies would like to put on a strong show in all three departments of he game in the upcoming first Test against India.
For that to happen, the West Indies will have to put an above-par total on the board to create pressure on the opposition and increase their chances of winning.
The onus will be on the opening pair of Tagenarine Chanderpaul and John Campbell to get the team off to a good start against the ast bowling of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj
Both batters haven't played a lot of cricket at the international level of late and would wish to get some runs under their belt.
Chanderpaul is making a comeback in the longest format of the game, while John Campbell had a disappointing outing against Australia and would look to get things sorted in the first match of the series itself.
The duo would also wish for the incoming natters to capitalize on the good platform laid by them.
Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Alick Athanaze, Roston Chase (c), Brandon King, Shai Hope (wk), Justin Greaves
The opening pair will be followed by a middle order which will depend a lot on experienced batters like Roston Chase and Shai Hope, both of whom have some experience of playing international cricket in India.
Roston Chase was a part of the playing XI when the Windies last played a Test match in India in 2018, and did well by scoring a century in the first innings of the last Test.
Hope, on the other hand, played well in the ODI series that succeeded the Test matches, including a century that helped West Indies tie one of those matches.
The bulk of the runs have to be scored by these two batters, who would want other promising batters to support them.
In addition to the lack of experience in the batting department, another major concern for the Windies is the lack of depth in it, which makes the role of Chase and Hope even more important.
Bowlers: Jayden Seales, Khary Pierre, Jomel Warrican, Jediah Blades
As far as the Windies' bowling combination is concerned, it will be without the services of Alzarri Joseph and Shamar Joseph, both of whom have been ruled out of the series.
Both Alzarri and Shamar would have, in all likelihood, featured in the team's playing XI for the opening match of the series.
The absence of the pair would mean that the pressure will be on Jayden Seales to lead West Indies' bowling department.
Jediah Blades, who impressed everyone with his bowling in the recently concluded edition of the CPL, is expected to make his Test debut as former Test captain Jason Holder has made himself unavailable for this particular series.
When it comes to the spin bowling arsenal of the visitors, it will comprise Khary Pierre, Jomel Warrican, and captain Roston Chase.
