West Indies Playing XI vs India- 2nd Test, West Indies Tour of India 2025
Openers: Tagenarine Chanderpaul, John Campbell
West Indies were outplayed with bat, ball, and in the field in the opening Test of the two-match series against India and would be itching to make a strong comeback in the upcoming contest in Delhi.
The Riston Chase-led side would bank on its batters to come good and at least put on a fight against an experienced Indian bowling lineup.
Shubman Gill and the management would wish for the openers to get the team off to a solid start against the new ball, as it has been a cause of concern for the West Indies in the last few years.
The opening pair of Tagenarine Chanderpaul and John Campbell showed signs of the intent to stay on the wicket in the second innings, which was missing in their first outing in the series.
Both batters will look to build on it and take the shine off the new ball, making things easy for the incoming batters in the process.
If they can spend time on the wicket, it will also allow them to get used to the pace and bounce of it, which will help them score some runs as well individually.
Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders: Alick Athanaze, Roston Chase (c), Brandon King, Shai Hope (wk), Justin Greaves
The opening pair will be followed by a middle order that couldn't make a significant contribution in both innings of the first Test, as the majority of the batters gifted their wicket away by playing rash shots.
The batters would want to correct the mistakes they made in the first Test and come up with a better performance.
For that to happen, captain Roston Chase will have to take responsibility and preferably bat in a slot higher at number four so that he can control the innings in a better way.
Chase would hope for good support from the likes of Shai Hope, Alick Athanaze, and Brandon King if the Windies want to post a total of close to 400 runs in their first innings with the bat.
Bowlers: Jayden Seales, Khary Pierre, Jomel Warrican, Johann Layne
West Indies' bowling lineup will consist of bowlers like Jayden Seales, Khary Pierre, Jomel Warrican, and Johann Layne, with Seales being the most experienced of all.
The visitors were visibly short of plans against an in-form bowling lineup in the first Test and were heavily relying on Jayden Seales to provide them with early breakthroughs.
The story is expected to remain the same in the second Test as well, with Khary Pierre and Johann Layne playing what will be only the second Test match of their careers.
Meaning that the onus will be on captain Roston Chase and vice captain Jomel Warrican to put on a much-improved performance as two of three spinners in the side.
