With an eye on the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, West Indies, on Tuesday (November 21), announced their ODI squad for the upcoming series against England as they look to start afresh in the 50-over format. The winners of the first two editions of the World Cup, the Caribbean outfit failed to qualify for the recently-concluded World Cup in India.
It was the first-ever World Cup without West Indies featuring in it. The two-time world champions will be keen to make amends by doing well in the upcoming series and set the tone for the next World Cup. Chief selector and former opener Desmond Haynes indicated the West Indies have already started focusing on the next World Cup.
“England on tour of the West Indies is always filled with excitement and expectation,” Haynes said.
“We expect this to be a hard-fought series, but we also believe this squad will do well in our home conditions. We have a clear vision. We are focused on building a solid team. Our main focus is to rebuild for success at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2027,” he added.
