The West Indies have made some big changes to their T20I squad as they prepare to face England in a three-match series, starting on June 6 at the Riverside Ground. Jason Holder and Andre Russell have been brought back into the T20I squad, but they’ll be without hard-hitting batter Nicholas Pooran, who has requested to rest after a long IPL 2025 season.

On Tuesday, June 3, Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced the T20I squad for the upcoming tours of England and Ireland. The three-match T20I series between England and the West Indies will begin after the conclusion of the ongoing three-match ODI series at The Oval on Tuesday.

After England, the West Indies team will fly back to Ireland, where they will also play a three-match T20I series. The T20I matches between Ireland and the West Indies are scheduled on June 12, 14, and 15 at the Bready Cricket Club. However, several players and coaching staff, including Andre Russell, will be rested for the Ireland tour.

Meanwhile, Jason Holder is returning to the T20I squad for the first time since February 2024. The former captain and experienced all-rounder had missed the T20 World Cup 2024 due to injury. On the other hand, Andre Russell last played a T20I in November last year against England in Barbados, where he picked up an ankle injury that sidelined him for the rest of the series.

West Indies set to begin new era under Shai Hope

This upcoming T20I series against England also marks the beginning of a new era, with Shai Hope taking over the T20I captaincy from Rovman Powell. However, Powell, who ended his captaincy stint series with a 3-0 loss at home to Bangladesh, has been named in the squad for the upcoming T20I series.

However, all-rounders Justin Greaves, Shamar Springer, and Terrance Hinds have been dropped from the T20I squads. But Sherfane Rutherford is all set to make a comeback in Men in Maroon after missing the Bangladesh series due to Big Bash League (BBL) commitments.

Notably, Keacy Carty has been named only in the T20I squad for the Ireland series. He will replace Brandon King, who has been granted leave, in the squad for the England series. Jyd Goolie has been handed a maiden call-up to the national setup for the Ireland tour.

Roston Chase to miss Ireland tour due to Australia Tests

West Indies Test captain Roston Chase will leave after the T20I series against England to return to the Caribbean and prepare for the upcoming series against Australia. Jyd Goolie will replace Chase in the squad for the T20I series against Ireland.

The Caribbean side will hold a special Test training camp in Barbados from June 13 to 21 to prepare for their upcoming three-match Test series against Australia, starting on June 25. Newly appointed all-format head coach Daren Sammy will be part of the camp along with assistant coaches Floyd Reifer and Ravi Rampaul.

Daren Sammy, Floyd Reifer, and Ravi Rampaul will return home after completing the England tour to focus on test preparations. In their absence, Rayon Griffith will take charge of the national team during the T20I series in Ireland.
