The defending champions Western Australia suffered a historic collapse, losing eight wickets for just one run, and even that they also got from a wide delivery during their One-Day Cup match against Tasmania on Friday, October 25, in Perth.

Western Australia team lost eight wickets for just one run, folding their innings at a pitiful total of 53 all-pot. The surprising performance has been termed one of the "craziest collapses" in cricket history by fans on social media.

Western Australia lost 8 wickets for just 1 run in One-Day Cup disaster

This shocking performance marked the second-lowest team total in the history of Australia’s domestic tournament. Western Australia’s is the only second low after South Australia's record low of 51, which was set by them also against Tasmania in Hobart way back in 2003.

Batting first, Western Australia was looked in a relatively stable position at 52 for 2 in the 16th over. However, the defending champions shattered into disarray, crumbling in just 28 balls and witnessing a record downfall against Tasmania at the WACA Ground in Perth.

In a terrifying moment, six Western Australia players were dismissed for a duck, including prominent white-ball names like Hilton Cartwright, Cooper Connolly, Ashton Turner, Ashton Agar, Jhye Richardson, and Joel Paris. Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis managed a mere single run before falling prey to the Tasmanian bowler Billy Stanlake.

Beau Webster emerges as hero for Tasmania in Perth

D'Arcy Short emerged as the only glimmer of hope for Western Australia, as he was the top scorer for them with 22 runs, while Cameron Bancroft (14) was the only other player to reach double figures. On the other hand, Western Australia opener Aaron Hardies scored 7 runs off 20 balls.

The real heroes of the match for Tasmania were Beau Webster, who delivered a stunning performance with the ball, taking 6 wickets for just 17 runs, and Billy Stanlake finished with the impressive figures of 3 for 17 against Western Australia at the WACA Stadium.

Chasing down the modest target of 54 runs, Tasmania cruised to victory in just nine overs, winning the game by seven wickets against Western Australia in Perth. Mitchell Owen played a crucial role in the chase, scoring a brisk 29 runs off 17 balls, while Matthew Wade made an unbeaten 21 off 13 balls.

Western Australia's One-Day Cup hopes in danger

Joel Paris (2/10) and Lance Morris (1/10) were the standout bowlers for Western Australia against Tasmania. Meanwhile, the latest embarrassment has put Western Australia's hopes of securing a fourth straight title in serious jeopardy in the ongoing One-Day Cup tournament.

This isn’t the first instance of such a shocking collapse Western Australia faces this season. Earlier, during a One-Day Cup match against South Australia, they went from a comfortable position of 133 for 3 to being bowled out for 164 while chasing a target of 167, facing another defeat.

Western Australia will next face Victoria in the One-Day Cup tournament in Melbourne on November 13, followed by South Australia on February 13 in Perth.
