Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra defended Virat Kohli against criticism on social media following the team’s loss in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. Aakash Chopra said that Virat Kohli has consistently delivered for the team, including in the knockout games.
Virat Kohli emerged as the leading run-getter in the 2023 World Cup, amassing 765 runs in 11 matches at an impressive average of 95.62. The right-handed batter crossed the 50-run mark in nine matches. He notched up three centuries and six fifties during the tournament.
The Delhi-born cricketer played a crucial knock of 117 runs off 113 deliveries in the semi-final encounter against New Zealand. The ace batter smashed his 50th ODI century, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record. He scored 54 runs off 63 deliveries in the final against Australia.

Speaking to Zee News, Aakash Chopra expressed his admiration for Virat Kohli’s contributions and questioned criticism and negativity on social media platforms. Chopra pointed out that Virat played his designated role effectively, including in the knockout matches.
“Virat Kohli scored runs everywhere, played the role given to him well and scored runs in the knockouts. He has stood up everywhere and what more can a player do than this. So you keep talking nonsense because social media allow you to,” Chopra told Zee News.

Virat Kohli Is Also Human – Aakash Chopra
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra highlighted that Kohli’s unexpected dismissal led to the unusual decision to send Ravindra Jadeja ahead of Suryakumar Yadav.
“India were trapped in the spiral that they shouldn’t make a mistake, that they should take the game deeper. They (Kohli and Rahul) weren’t thinking of fours and sixes at all. If they had gotten out while playing a big shot, you wouldn’t have played 50 overs as well. So obviously your hands were tied.”
