Legendary cricketer Rahul Dravid enjoyed a really successful stint as the head coach of the Indian cricket team, and it gave him an unforgettable opportunity to lift the World Cup that he couldn’t during his illustrious career as a player and captain.

Dravid had some painful memories in his cricketing career, but as a coach, the legendary batter has a lot of moments that he can savor for a lifetime. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team crushed South Africa by seven runs in the final to win the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados on June 29.

It was India’s first ICC trophy triumph since their 2013 ICC Champions Trophy win, and it was the result of Dravid and his team’s dedication and hard work put in over the past four years. Dravid took over from Ravi Shastri in November 2021, initially on a two-year term, which was later extended until the recent T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies.

Under his leadership, Team India reached the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) and the ODI World Cup last year, but the elusive trophy remained out of their grasp. However, the Men in Blue managed to cross the final hurdle in June and ended their 11-year-long ICC drought to say a perfect farewell to coach Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli.

Notably, Rohit and Kohli both retired from T20I cricket after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup, while Dravid didn’t reapply for the high-profile job of the Indian head coach after his tenure ended on a high note last week. It is almost confirmed that Gautam Gambhir will take over as India’s next coach.

Meanwhile, Rahul Dravid is known for his calm demeanor and strong ethical values both on and off the field. The former Indian captain, renowned as "The Wall" for his resilience as a batsman, always believes in discipline and hard work in every aspect of cricket and very rarely shows his emotions.

But after lifting the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy, Dravid couldn’t help but express his emotions loudly. When Kohli handed the prestigious trophy to the coach after the trophy presentation, he celebrated like a young player, and the way he screamed in joy was a memorable moment for his fans, especially for Suryakumar Yadav.

The Indian middle-order batter said that he will always keep the clip of those 30 seconds when Dravid wholeheartedly celebrated the win after lifting the T20 World Cup trophy to him for life. Suryakumar said that he had never seen the coach as happy as he looked after lifting the trophy.

Suryakumar Yadav was quoted as saying by The Indian Express: “That 30-second clip when he took the trophy in his hand and screamed… that moment when he expressed his happiness. I think I will save that clip for life.”

The stylish batter also revealed Dravid thanked Rohit for convincing him to stay as head coach after the ODI World Cup 2023 loss to Australia, as that phone call has now presented him with the opportunity to fulfill his dream of lifting the World Cup, at least as coach.

Suryakumar signed off by saying, “In the end, he came and thanked Rohit and said, “Thank you, Rohit, for that phone call in November”, because he didn’t want to continue after (India’s loss in) the 50-over World Cup but Rohit and Jay sir (BCCI secretary Jay Shah) convinced him to stay.”
