Former Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani talked about the reports of Gautam Gambhir joining Team India as the head coach. He said that the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor would be the perfect option to be the successor of Rahul Dravid.
The India National Cricket Team recently won the T20 World Cup 2024. This also means an end to the tenure of Rahul Dravid as the head coach. But the hunt for the new coach has been on since the last few months and BCCI is actively looking for a candidate who can take up the role.
Recently there were reports which stated that Gautam Gambhir has been interviewed by the BCCI's CAC committee. Along with him, former Women's team coach WV Raman was also interviewed and the two seem to be front runners to take over the post of India head coach.
There is a very high chance that Gautam Gambhir will replace Rahul Dravid as the coach. Some reports claimed that KKR's mentor will be the head coach while WV Raman will be appointed as the batting coach of the team and the duo will be taking charge soon.
During a recent interaction, Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani, who worked with Gautam Gambhir in IPL at LSG, is confident that KKR's mentor has everything to take India to great heights. He shared his experience while working with Gambhir and stated (as quoted by India Today):
"Yes. Oh, yes. Yes, of course. He's a great guy. He's calm. I mean, he's achieved a lot in international cricket, so I don't see any reason for him not to use. He's got everything it is like to lead their team.
"So, um, I think it would be really nice for India and for him as well to start, you know, to be a head coach for them. I'm sure that he's gonna do a lot of good things for India because he is. I mean, what I saw when I was there, I think he's gonna do well right now."
I'm sure every cricketer would wanna play IPL - Blessing Muzarabani
Blessing Muzarabani also talked about his desire to play in the Indian Premier League, saying that it's one of the best tournaments in the world. He said that making a name in the league would put their country in great shape. He elaborated:
"I'm sure every cricketer would wanna play IPL, as it's one of the best (leagues) in the world. And, you play against the best, so everyone wants to be there. So, of course, I would wanna be there. But going there, there are a lot of steps that we have to take.
"That is to perform and make sure you make a name for yourself in your country. So IPL will be really nice for me and the guys as well. But, we're not really thinking about IPL right now. I was just thinking about, how we can win this series because we believe we are capable of winning," he concluded.
