Mohammed Shami ended the World Cup with 24 wickets in the tournament making him the highest wicket-taker of this World Cup. Unfortunately, the Indian team lost the final to Australia as they were outplayed on the big day.

The Indian team headed into that game unbeaten and ended the day on the losing side. India scored 240 after being sent into bat first and Australia chased down the score in 43 overs.

Australian opener Travis Head scored a match-winning 137 to bat India out of the game. He brought Australia back into the game with a 192-run stand with Marnus Labuschagne (58).

Meanwhile, after India’s loss in the World Cup final, Mohammed Shami has returned back for a break to his hometown in Amroha, UP. The pacer, who was not in the starting XI for India in the first few games, ended up as the top wicket-taker in what was a brilliant campaign for him.

A video of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting the Indian players after the final loss went viral on social media. The Indian PM spoke individually to all of the players. He also spoke to Mohammed Shami as well. A picture of Shami keeping his head on PM Modi’s shoulders also went viral.

On reaching his hometown, the first question asked to the Indian pacer was about his interaction with PM Narendra Modi. In his modest way, Mohammed Shami said that the PM talking to the Indian players after the final loss was motivating in many ways.

If Your PM Is With You, Your Confidence Increases: Mohammed Shami

“It is very important. At that time, we had lost the match. In such a situation, when the Prime Minister encourages you, it is a different moment. When your morale is down, then if your PM is with you then confidence increases,” Mohammed Shami was quoted as saying by ANI.

India venture into a five-match T20I series against Australia starting with the first T20I in Vizag on November 23, Thursday. Mohammed Shami along with the rest of the senior Indian players are rested from this series.
