When Sachin Tendulkar Pranked A Young Virat Kohli During Their First Interaction

Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli are perhaps amongst the sporting legends produced by Indian cricket. While Sachin Tendulkar ruled the cricketing world for 24 years, Virat Kohli has taken over the mantle at present and has already established his legacy for many years to come. And the master blaster has recollected his first interaction with the modern-day legend.

Sachin Tendulkar, who played international cricket for 24 years, saw plenty of cricketers come and go. The 47-year old played with the likes of Mohammad Azharuddin, Venkatesh Prasad, Javagal Srinath, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Zaheer Khan, MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Kaif, Rohit Sharma, and many more.

When it comes to Virat Kohli, the duo holds utmost respect for one another and have shared many memorable moments on the field. Kohli and Tendulkar were part of India’s 2011 World Cup squad that lifted the trophy for the second time. Tendulkar recollected giving Kohli certain advises on their first meeting and after a while, everyone began laughing, realizing it was a prank.

“I didn’t know what was happening. I asked him ‘what are you doing?’. Told him that there was no need for this and such things don’t happen. Then he got up and we looked at those guys, they started laughing,” Tendulkar said as quoted by Times Now.

Virat Kohli revealed being pranked by the senior players at the starting of his career:

In conversation with Gaurav Kapur on Breakfast with Champions, the Indian captain disclosed that the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Munaf Patel, and Irfan Pathan tricked him into believing that new recruits from the Indian national camp had to seek Sachin Tendulkar’s blessings by touching his feet. “After getting selected, the initial two days the only thing I could think about is meeting Sachin in the dressing room in any way possible. And these people got wind of it because I had told that to someone” Kohli remarked.
