They are reportedly going to play only in the ODI format, and the India tour to Bangladesh consisted of 3 ODI matches as well. These matches were scheduled for the 17th, 20th, and 23rd of August.
However, now some reports have revealed that Indians are unlikely to travel to the neighboring nation amid rising political unrest. However, both cricket boards are yet to confirm their take and the final fate of the series.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's return to one-day internationals delayed
With the probable cancellation of the India tour of Bangladesh, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's return to the field for India is delayed as of now. If the tour against Bangladesh is cancelled, the two Indian greats might make a comeback in the Australian white-ball tour.
The Men in Blue are scheduled to play against Australia for a three-match ODI series and a 5-match test series, which will be held later in October-November this year. The ODIs are scheduled to be played on the 19th, 23rd, and 25th of October.
Rohit Sharma and Kohli were last seen in the 2025 Champions Trophy, where Rohit Sharma led India to their second ICC title, defeating New Zealand. The Australian tour will be followed by 3 ODIs against South Africa and another 3 ODIs against New Zealand.

Rohit and Virat Kohli retired from Tests before the India tour of England
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the longest format of the game before the onset of the India vs England test series. The veteran skipper captained India in the ICC World Test Championship Final of 2023, where they lost to Australia.
This was marked by a humiliating exit from the next World Test Championship cycle, as India could not qualify for the WTC Final 2025, which featured defending champions Australia and South Africa.
Soon after Rohit announced his retirement from the red-ball format back in 2025, Kohli also did not take long to back his decision, announcing his retirement as well. Kohli also decided to retire before the England series, causing a major upset for cricket fans.
The two had previously announced their retirement from the T20I format after the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 final.
Will Rohit and Virat Kohli feature in the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup?
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have both shown their willingness to feature in the upcoming ODI World Cup, as they have not retired from the format, despite having retired from the other two formats of the game.
Virat Kohli's fitness also makes him a candidate who can continue to dominate 2 years from now; however, several greats have doubted Rohit Sharma for the same. Rohit Sharma's role as the Indian captain has also not been clarified in recent times, especially after Shubman Gill took over the role of India's test captain.
