Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan recalled Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell's spectacular innings against them during the 2023 ODI World Cup match at the Wankhede Stadium. Rashid Khan admitted to still having haunting memories of Maxwell's performance, describing it as an "unbelievable knock".

Glenn Maxwell scored a match-winning double hundred when Australia was struggling at 91-7 in the 292-run chase. The righthanded batter scored an unbeaten 201 runs off 128 balls, with the help of 21 fours and 10 sixes. The veteran all-rounder became the first double centurion in ODIs while chasing a target.

The Afghanistan team failed to advance to the semi-finals of last year's World Cup after losing to Australia. The Afghan team finished in sixth place in the 10-team points table. The Australian team, on the other hand, reached the semi-finals and went on to secure the trophy at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

I Do Think About That Game - Rashid Khan

During a recent interview with the International Cricket Council (ICC), Rashid Khan mentioned how thoughts of Glenn Maxwell's remarkable innings against Afghanistan sometimes haunt him at night. Rashid described Maxwell's knock as one of the best innings they have ever seen.

"At night, whenever I'm going to sleep, sometimes I do think about that game. It just comes in the mind. Sometimes when I think about that game, my body just changes. That was an unbelievable knock, one of the best innings we have ever seen," Rashid said.

The 35-year-old Australian all-rounder also benefited from luck during his innings. The right-handed batter survived an overturned LBW decision against Noor Ahmad and was also dropped by Mujeeb-ur-Rahman at short fine leg. These missed chances proved costly for Afghanistan in the ODI World Cup 2023 match.

I's Been A Little Bit Tentative - Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell admitted he hasn't yet delivered his best performance in the T20 World Cup 2024. He acknowledged trying to nudge singles instead of utilizing his strengths, stating that he needs to focus on what he does best.

"Over the last few games, I've been a little bit tentative ... trying to poke way into a gap and get a one. (But) I've got to play the strengths that I have a bit more often. Sometimes your mind can start to play a few tricks on you ... you start to look at previous scores. But at this stage of the tournament, I've just gone back to what I do really well. And hopefully that holds me in good stead."

Maxwell entered the 2024 T20 World Cup after a disappointing IPL season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He scored 53 runs in 5 matches at an average of 17.67 and a strike rate of 132.50, with a best score of 28. Maxwell also contributed with the ball, taking three wickets at an economy rate of 8.42.
