While Team India Enjoys Rest, Rohit Sharma Starts Training For Sydney Test

While his teammates celebrate a much-deserved break, India opener Rohit Sharma has started his preparation for the upcoming third Test against Australia. Team India has been given a two-day rest following the monumental win in the second Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
The right-handed batsman had joined the squad at a Melbourne hotel on Wednesday (December 30) after landing in the Australian city post the completion of the 14-day mandatory quarantine period in Sydney. Earlier this month, Rohit Sharma had landed in Australia after clearing his rehab and the fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Rohit Sharma has been on the sideline since IPL 2020 ended on November 10. Following the IPL, he had returned home from the UAE before travelling to the NCA to recover from the calf injury he had sustained in the tournament. As a result, he missed the limited-overs series as well as the first two Tests of the ongoing tour.
The senior batsman is now working hard to make up for the lost time. On Thursday, he trained under the supervision of Team India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour and the throwndown specialist.
“It’s only Rohit Sharma, three throw down guys, and the batting coach. The rest of the boys are on holiday for 2 days but Rohit Sharma out there training,” cricket journalist Boria Mazumdar said on Sports Today.
The Indian cricket team’s official handle on twitter also posted a couple of pictures of Rohit Sharma training in the field.

Meanwhile, Sydney Cricket Ground has been confirmed as the venue for the third Test. There were chances of the venue being changed after the recent COVID-19 outbreak in Sydney. However, Cricket Australia has confirmed that Sydney will host the penultimate match of the series. The four-match series is currently locked at 1-1.
